For Parents FAQ

What is the Theta Xi Fraternity?
Theta Xi Fraternity is a national leader in the educational and social development of its members. Our successes and diversity have been celebrated by over 60,000 members since 1864.

The Purpose of Theta Xi is to provide a college home environment for its active members in which fellowship and alumni guidance lead to wholesome mental, moral, physical and spiritual growth. The values on which Theta Xi was founded on are passed onto new members in "The Quest for Theta Xi."

Theta Xi is one of North America's oldest social fraternities and the only such organization founded during the Civil War. Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, Theta Xi services Chapters and Colonies all over the United States. The Fraternity offers a comprehensive new member education program called Alpha Nine and countless educational programs for its members. Theta Xi is the only National Fraternity to receive two Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFAR) "Excellence in Programming" awards; one for Values into Action (Values training) and then second for Benchmarks of Excellence (Chapter Operations training).

Where is Theta Xi?
The MIT chapter of Theta Xi is located at 64 Bay State Road, Boston, MA 02215.  We own two brownstones in the Back Bay area in Boston, both of which overlook the Charles River.  The houses are less than a block away from Kenmore Square which sports restaurants, banks, bookstores, grocery stores, and not to mention Fenway Park, only a few minutes walking distance away.

How much does it cost?
Associate members do not have to pay any dues to the Fraternity.  However, once an associate member becomes a brother, we do require that he pays his dues and living expenses to the House.  Below, you can see the costs of living at Theta Xi versus living on-campus.

What do the brothers of Theta Xi do?
Individually, the brothers are incredibly active on campus; many are involved with the various a cappella groups, some dance for Dance Troupe, while others involve themselves with cultural and student leadership groups.

As a group, though, we accomplish even more.  We host study breaks for the brothers and associate members; we have prominent members of the faculty join us for our weekly coffee nights; we get involved with the intramural sports teams, from soccer to billiards to foosball; and of course, the brothers perform huge community service events annually.  As a national Fraternity, we contribute to two major charitable organizations, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Habitat for Humanity.

I don’t want my son to be hazed.
Neither did we!  The brothers of Theta Xi believe that our brotherhood is strengthened in the values that we hold close; justice, purity, truth.

In light of those values, we are required by MIT, Massachusetts law, and our national organization to have an anti-hazing policy which the brothers take incredibly seriously.

I’m still curious about Theta Xi Fraternity.  How can I get in touch with members of the house?
